What is the difference between an optician and an optometrist? An optometrist is an eye doctor who examines your eyes and writes prescriptions. An optician fits, adjusts and repairs glasses and helps you choose frames and lenses from that prescription. At Vision Optical Methuen, Mario Polanco is the licensed optician and exams are done by our independent optometrist. Both shops, Methuen and Haverhill, fit glasses.

How long does it take to get new glasses? At Vision Optical Methuen, most glasses are ready in about one business week, and many orders are ready the same day when the prescription allows. Does insurance or MassHealth cover glasses? Many vision plans, including MassHealth, help pay for glasses. Can you repair my glasses? Yes. Both Vision Optical shops repair glasses, from broken hinges to frame adjustments for a better fit. Walk in during open hours at Methuen, 301D Merrimack St (Mon–Fri 9–5), or Haverhill, 161 Washington St. If you want new lenses in your current frames, bring them in and our optician will check whether the frame can be reused.

Can I get a glasses prescription without a full eye exam? Yes, at Vision Optical's Methuen shop only. The Eyebot vision test costs $50, cash or FSA/HSA card, is for adults ages 18 to 64, and gives a glasses prescription only, reviewed by a licensed eye doctor. Can I use my glasses prescription to buy contact lenses? No. A glasses prescription is not a contact lens prescription. Contacts need a contact lens exam and fitting so the lenses fit your eyes.
